Balancing Breath

Journey of meditation.png

The breath is the most vital force of the body as it affects the activities of every cell in the body and is closely linked to the performance of the brain.

A great way to balance ourselves out is by practicing a simple yet powerful breathing technique called Alternate Nostril Breathing - one of many types of pranayam.

Here’s how to practice this simple breathing technique:

Sitting comfortably, use the thumb and index fingers of your right hand (or left, if that’s more comfortable!) to breathe through alternate nostrils. First close the left nostril with your index fingers, inhaling deeply through the right nostril. At the end of the inhale, close the right nostril with your thumb and exhale through the left nostril.

Now inhale through the left nostril fully and deeply, then close the left nostril and exhale through the right one. Try to keep the breath complete and full on both the inhalation and exhalation.

Repeat for 3-5 minutes, or until you feel calm and balanced.
