Tips for New Students

To help those who may be new to Kundalini, we created a few videos with some basic information to help you feel more comfortable getting started with your practice. Whether online or in person, when taking a Kundalini Yoga class, do let the teacher know that you’re new and s/he can give you some extra pointers.

We don’t necessarily consider students who are new to Kundalini to be beginners. It’s not a linear practice and we each bring different skills and strengths. Sometimes, something that is a challenge for a veteran Kundalini practitioner is easy for a new student and vice versa. And from day to day, what each of us may find challenging individually can change depending on how rested we are, what we’ve eaten and had to drink, the weather outside, etc.

The best way to understand Kundalini Yoga is to experience it. We urge you to keep up as best you can with all of the exercises - as weird or subtle or intense they may seem - and see where it takes you.

And while teachers may urge you to keep up and challenge yourself, as with any physical practice, respect your limitations. If you have injuries or illness and need to back off of an exercise or posture, you should do so. (As with any physical practice, you should check with your doctor to make sure it’s right for you, before you begin.)
